My Volunteer English Teaching Kit

There are two parts to my volunteer teaching kit: what I take to class everyday and what I have at my homestay placement.

I buy as many of these things from the village closest to my homestay placement as I can. Sometimes I need to make a trip to a nearby big town or city but you’ll be surprised at how much of this stuff you can get quite close to [your new] home.

What I take to English class each day :

  • A learner’s dictionary
  • A ball
  • Spare pens
  • Paper for me to write notes on
  • Whiteboard pen (or chalk)
  • Stickers

What I leave at my homestay placement :

  • Poster paper
  • Coloured card
  • Letter cards
  • Flash cards
  • A4 paper
  • A3 paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • String
  • Stapler and staples
  • Ruler
  • Pens, pencils, crayons
  • Glue
  • Post it notes
  • Coloured paper
  • Sharpener (called a cutter in Sri Lanka)
  • Paper clips
  • Blu Tack
