Education Fund
In response to the 2005 Tsunami in Asia, VESL establised a fund to support schools and other educational establishments affected by the disaster.
VESL had neither the infrastructure nor the resources to aid humanitarian crises. What we did have was the potential to establish educational and community-based projects with a longer-term perspective.
By establishing an Educational Fund VESL can act as a grant-giving body to projects and help fund other organisations within Sri Lanka to provide resources and educational support to affected communities. We intend to continue the fund in coming years to support the development of education across the country.
Education is so often left on the sidelines in times of disaster, but it is one thing that offers a glimpse of hope, a return to stability within communities.

To date the Education Fund has donated money towards:
- paying the wages of additional English teachers in Eastern Province schools.
- providing teaching resources and materials for our volunteers to use on placement and be left with the schools.
- providing English teaching resources for schools.
- supporting travel and food costs for local teachers attending training workshops.
We hope to continue funding educational programmes in Sri Lanka. Every penny donated to the Education Fund goes directly to where it is most needed, with no money whatsoever going towards any administration costs.
