University Partnership Programme

Background

For the past few years, VESL has teamed up with several UK universities to run overseas volunteering projects for their students.  In the last few years we have worked closely with Manchester Metropolitan University, Keele University, Edge Hill, Aston University, Northampton University and the Cass Business school. VESL has worked with different departments including volunteering, education, careers and the students union.

We are always interested in developing new partnerships so please contact tom@vesl.org if you are interested in discussing ways we can work together.

University Overseas Challenge

The University Overseas Challenge Programme started at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2007.  Since its successful pilot we have worked closely with several other universities including Edge Hill and Keele university to run the challenge.

VESL works alongside universities to recruit, select and train teams of 6 or more students (and / or staff) to volunteer overseas on a summer programme.  The students who take part gain a fantastic and rewarding experience from taking part in this worthwhile project, helping to make a real difference to rural communities.  Undertaking this project shows strength of character and an ability to work with others in a new and challenging environmentskills and attributes that always look great on a C.V.

What do Universities gain?

  • VESL organises all aspects of the projects and handle the legal and safety aspects associated with volunteering overseas including liabilities insurance and in country support.
  • A chance to offer an overseas volunteering programme to your students that is run by a not for profit charity.
  • A great opportunity for students to develop personally, acquiring new skills whilst demonstrating they are well rounded and determined individuals who are capable of being adaptable and resourceful.
  • If we’re able to gain sufficient students, VESL will fund an overseas visit to projects by a university staff member or volunteer officer.
