Student Leadership Programme

Volunteer Overseas again… this time it’s funded!

We are extremely pleased to be able to offer an opportunity to past volunteers, who are still at university, to lead their own project group overseas.

Selected Student Leaders will work alongside VESL staff to rectuit and select a team of volunteers from their university. They will help to train and prepare the team and will be given the opportunity to provide support overseas as a in-country volunteer co-ordinator.

The Student Leaders programme is a funded initiative; co-ordinators will be given a programme budget and VESL will cover all flights, transport, food and accommodation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for past volunteers to return to their projects for free, whilst gaining a management experience that will look great on a C.V.

Student Leader will be responsible for the recruitment and co-ordination of a team of 5 or more student volunteers.  They will report to the VESL UK programme directors and in-country managers.

Past volunteers will be provided with training to equip them to undertake this Student Leaders role.

The Student Leader will :

  • Lead a team of volunteers working on a summer programme.
  • Recruit at least 5 volunteers into their team.
  • Co-ordinate a selection event with VESL staff.
  • Support recruits with fundraising events.
  • Support a VESL run training event for the team.
  • Provide pre-departure guidance and advice.
  • Travel overseas to support volunteers as an in-country co-ordinator.
  • Visit the volunteers on their projects and provide support as required.
  • Be an emergency contact for volunteers during their placement.
  • Run a debriefing session for the volunteers at the end of the programme.
  • Stay in regular contact with VESL to provide updates on the programme.
  • Complete an evaluation report on their return form the project.
  • Effectively manage allocated budgets.

If you are a past VESL volunteer and would like more information about this opportunity, please email tom@vesl.org
